Why South Dakota CARES
Our day of giving means so much more than what it may seem. It is an ode to our inception in May 1921 – when a group of more than 100 women (pictured to the right) held a donation day and prepared supplies for the opening of the House of Mercy, the first of many LSS services. In honor of that memorable day, 103 years ago, we host South Dakota CARES, a statewide day of giving that brings all South Dakotans together simultaneously to learn about the difference made through donations, celebrate stories of positive change, and generate financial support for children, families, and communities in South Dakota.
Last year, more than 300 South Dakotans came together to raise more than $323,000 in support of LSS services!
